Transcript of a real Spanish conversation I had with my tutor JuanJose today:
JJ: "So then the raton de dientes comes and leaves money under your pillow."
Me: "Excuse me?"
JJ: "You know, when you lose a tooth, and a little mouse comes and takes it from you while you sleep."
Me: "Right. So in the States, we have a Tooth Fairy. A pretty, clean fairy."
JJ: "Oh. Well we're a lot poorer than you guys. We have the Tooth Mouse."
I almost fell out of my chair from laughing so hard.

this is absolutely true! i actually felt offended when i found out my mouse was being replaced by a fairy. When do jurisdictions impede fantasy creatures from entering my room at night?!
Also, the boogieman is called "el Cuco" or in certain areas "el Chiflon". The name comes from the word "chiflar" which is a sound we make with our tongue and teeth, very similar to whistling, that resembles the sound of high winds.
So, at night.. when you hear the wind blow.. you know who's coming for you..!
